Rifle & Shotgun Cleaning Box

Rifle & Shotgun Cleaning Box

This rifle/shotgun cleaning box is made to hold a variety of rifles and shotguns while they are being cleaned. This particular box is made of highly figured Walnut for the case, supports, and removable tote. The top consists of splalted River Birch. The walnut was purchased at a local lumber store as 4/4 lumber and then planed in my shop. The birch came from a fallen tree on the lot next door. Box joints were used on the main box and beveled joints on the interior tote. The side gun supports are held in place with a walnut shelf. An orange shellac was used to bring out the figure in both types of wood and as a sanding sealer. The box is topcoated using polyurethane. The brass fittings (handles, hinge and latch) came from Lee Valley. The box measures 8-3/4″ high x 15-1/2″ wide x 8″ deep. The golden ratio rule was used to determine the size of the box. The box will be for sale at a local crafts fair for $225 in December.
