A product that sounds too good to be true will often disappoint you. Take those X-ray glasses I sent away for as a kid. You may find this hard to believe, but they were a fake! Easy to apply finishing products are another area that elicit suspicion as soon as the claims strike my ears. Rockler's Polyurethane Gel Finish sounded far too easy to use when Michael Dresdner first told me about it & but as usual, Michael spoke the truth. I recently used the poly to finish a built-in set of dining room cabinets and found it to be a pleasure to apply. On top of that, it looks like a million dollars (even if I do say so myself.) You can use a rag or sponge to apply the gel, but at Michael's advice, I used a gray 3M pad and couldn't have been happier. The solids content of the polyurethane is high, so it builds up fast. The moderate sheen was perfect for my Arts & Crafts inspired cabinets and polyurethane's durability is legendary. When all said and done, if you are looking for an easy to apply and durable top coat, Rockler's new gel style polyurethane would be a great choice.
