CA GlueWhen installing hinges on small box projects, it can be challenging to get the lid perfectly aligned with the box. Recently, I figured out a simple solution to this problem.

I fastened the hinges into their mortises on the lower portion of the box first. Then I squeezed a drop or two of cyanoacrylate glue in between the holes on the top hinge leaves. I carefully set the lid on the hinges and lined it up flush on all sides. It was easy to do before the glue set.

I let the glue dry for a full 10 minutes. With the lid glued temporarily in place, I could raise it and mark the exact mortise locations. This done, I gently twisted the lid to pop it loose from the hinges and proceeded with the installation. Works great!
