Midi LatheIt's never too early to begin checking projects off of your holiday gift list, and Craftsman's new Midi Lathe could help you get them done. The tool features a cast-iron frame to help dampen vibration during turning and a 1/2 hp continuous-duty motor to power through those larger projects.

This lathe offers 12” of swing over bed (9” over the tool-rest) and up to 16” between centers. So, you can turn everything from pens to small bowls to longer spindles. A swing-out shroud on the headstock makes it easy to switch between six different spindle speeds, ranging from 650 to 4,000 rpm. Or you can lock the head in 12 different indexing positions for fluting, drilling or grooving and veining with a router.

Other helpful features include cam locks on the tool rest and tailstock, plus a knockout bar to remove drive and live centers. Craftsman also offers a bed extension and stand for the Midi Lathe as accessories.

Craftsman's 12 x 16 Midi Lathe is available in Sears stores now or online for $399.99. To learn more about the tool, visit www.craftsman.com.
