Getting Alder Cabinets to Match Countertop

Q: We just put in new alder kitchen cabinets and plan to finish them ourselves. What color finish should I use so that they go with our countertops? The counters are Formica®.

Cabinet DrawingTiffany Lamb: I would go with natural stain.
Al Pacca: Golden oak is what I would choose.  
Carl Reef: Definitely, Antique cherry  
Skip Tumaloo: In this case, I would say use Light Walnut.
