Hammering Away at Accuracy

The miter gauge that came with my table saw has always had too much side-to-side play for accurate work. My solution was to remove the bar from the miter fence and dimple the bottom edge every 1/2" or so with a small nail set. The dimples effectively made the bar wider. To get a perfect fit, I then ran a file along the edge, testing it until the bar ran smoothly in the slot with no side play. It now works like a dream. - Ernest Wisner, Amherst, New York
