INCRA I-Box Jig Expands Box Joint Possibilities

 A typical shop-made box joint jig attached to a miter gauge can produce satisfactory box joints. But accurate setup depends on rounds of test pieces and, of course, time. INCRA has recently released a faster and more effective solution for making box joints called the I-Box. It was designed by Woodworker's Journal reader Alan Schaffter, and it offers a number of precision features that should make it a versatile and convenient joinery-making solution.
The heart of the jig is a dual-pitch lead screw mechanism that enables the jig to be micro-adjusted both in terms of a box joint's pin width and its spacing by simply turning a dial. Made mostly of anodized aluminum for durability, the I-Box can be used in the miter slots of either a table saw or router table. The jig will accommodate both left- and right-hand miter slots, and it will cut any pin width ranging from 1/8 to 3/4 in.  INCRA's exclusive GlideLOCK miter bar enables the I-Box to be precisely fitted to a miter slot to minimize "play." Its front and rear blade guards will accept workpieces up to 1-1/4 in. thick, and the jig's wide fence offers ample purchase for a workpiece clamp. Reusable and reversible MDF subfences reduce or even eliminate tearout. You can use the I-Box for cutting symmetric box joints, plus center keyed box joints and splined box joints. It will also make dentil molding.
