It usually takes a few solid taps with a hammer to fully insert the barrel of a bullet catch in its hole. But using a hammer means you must strike the spring-tensioned "bullet," a practice that could damage the catch. Here's a better way to get the job done. Bore a hole in the end of a dowel, making both the hole diameter and depth just big enough to fit over the bullet. Then, while holding the dowel end against the catch, hammer the dowel to insert the barrel. Since the bored dowel only makes contact with the flange of the barrel, the bullet wont be damaged.
