Nexabond 2500 Wood Adhesives

At last summer's Association of Woodworking and Furnishings Suppliers Fair (AWFS), Nexabond unveiled woodworking's latest development in adhesives. Packaged like cyanoacrylate (CA) glue but with a longer open time, and no need for an activator, the makers of Nexabond 2500 Wood Adhesive hope it will revolutionize general-purpose woodworking glues in a number of ways.
For one, Nexabond's short (1 to 3 minute) or medium (3 to 5 minute) handling time formulations are faster setting than ordinary PVA or hide glues, yet offer more open time than CA. Either variation fully cures in one hour. It also only needs to be applied to one side of a joint rather than two, so you can use less glue than other options, and given the quick-setting nature, mechanical clamping may be unnecessary. Still, the fully cured glue joint is purported to be stronger than the surrounding wood, which makes Nexabond glues comparable to other common yellow glues. Packaged in 1- and 4-ounce sizes, both the short and medium options are thicker in consistency than CA glue to help eliminate runs and drips. They contain no solvents, including water, so Nexabond will not raise grain or shrink the wood fibers. Sanding and finishing can begin as soon as the glue cures. Rockler now carries Nexabond's full line of options
. One-ounce bottles of either 2500S short or 2500M medium handling-time glue (items 49888 and 44197) sell for $7.99. The larger 4-ounce bottles (items 44688 or 44128) are available for $16.99.
