Q: I purchased purpleheart for a music box. As I sanded it, the purple color diminished greatly. What can I do to get the color back?

Michael Dresdner: Expose it to the air. Purpleheart has an odd characteristic:when you sand it, the color changes from deep purple to light gray. The color will return with exposure to air, so instead of finishing it immediately after sanding, wait a day or two until the color returns.
