Removing Paint with a Planer

DeWalt PlanerIs removing paint from lumber with a planer particularly hard on the planer?

Andy Rae: Yes, it certainly can be. Painted boards will dull knives more quickly than bare wood, and paint can hide nails or other metal bits which can chip planer blades.

John Brock: Sub-layers under the top coat can be soft and gummy and can gum up the knives.
