Rockler Reclaimed Route 66 Lumber
Issue: Issue 343
Posted Date: 1/14/2014
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has introduced Reclaimed Route 66 Lumber
, sourced from the decks of tractor trailer trucks that travelled across the U.S., including travel on Route 66. The Reclaimed Route 66 Lumber planks are a mix of red and white oak and measure six feet in length, 12" wide and 1-1/4" thick. The edges are dotted with blackened holes where bolts were torched out; these holts can be let as is for character or trimmed off if desired. The bottom side is less worn and shows rust bands from the tractor trailer's frame. A project utilizing this lumber is featured in the February 2014 issue of Woodworker's Journal
. The Reclaimed Route 66 Lumber (item 44241) sells for $5.99 per board foot in stores and online in bundles of two planks (15 board feet) for $89.95.
