The traditional trade and fine craftsmanship of furniture making has a deep history, and the Fine Furnishings Shows support the seasoned craftsmen, young professionals and up-and-coming students in an effort to maintain a bright future for furniture makers. A growing number of colleges and universities are offering programs geared towards the design and crafting of furniture. From century old programs at schools, such as North Bennet Street School that emphasize technical mastery of woodworking techniques, to programs that explore more modern design, such as RISD and Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, the Fine Furnishings Show provides a way to expose students to the business side of their craft while introducing attendees to a group of rising talent.
The Fine Furnishings Shows present custom furniture, home décor, and accessories ranging from traditional to contemporary in a wide variety of designs, materials, and price points. They provide a venue where artisans have the opportunity to meet with designers, decorators, members of the media, collectors, and the general public to make direct sales, initiate commissions, and generate publicity for their work.
