Learn the craft of timber framing with 18th and 19th century tools and techniques at restored Shaker community Hancock Shaker Village near Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Instructors are timber frame architect and builder Jack Sobon, author of Build a Classic Timber Framed House, and timber frame builder Dave Carlon. Aspects covered during the workshop include: hand hewing timbers form the log, square rule and scribe rule layout systems, care and use of traditional hand tools, layout and cutting of timber joinery of both sawn and hewn timbers, assembly and raising of the frame, and more. Registration fee of $480 includes admission to the museum and a copy of Build a Classic Timber Framed House. No previous carpentry or timber framing experience necessary.
