"Green" Wood Products on the Rise at IBS

Unlike other woodworking-specific trade shows we attend, the International Builder's Show is really geared toward the professional builder or remodeler - not us shop rats. But, despite the fact that we don't write articles about wall systems, the latest plumbing fixtures or new ways to insulate attics, there are still booths here that are just plain inspiring to see. Two standouts that caught our eye as woodworkers are Barnwood Incorporated and Green Choice Flooring International.

Kobalt's Tower of Power Tool Chest

If you're as much a grease monkey as you are a woodworker, you've gotta check out Kobalt's new 53-in.-tall, stainless steel tool chest (model 112374).

Chris Has Left the Building!

It's been great to pound the pavement here in Vegas this past week at the International Builder's Show, but the soles of my feet tell me it's time to wrap things up...and so does my watch (the flight home leaves in three hours!). All of us here at Woodworker's Journal hope you've enjoyed our show coverage. There's a lot to see in such a massive convention space, but we think we've skimmed off some of the coolest stuff for your viewing pleasure. Be sure to check out more product overviews from IBS in upcoming eZines as well as the "What's In Store" section of our June print issue. So long from Nevada!

RIDGID Offers Three Remodeling Tools for Under $100

How do you spend the weekends you're not woodworking? Chances are, you've got a list of remodeling or home improvement projects that keep you busy. Unless you make your living as a contractor, though, you probably don't want to spend top dollar on those remodeling tools you only use occasionally. RIDGID knows just where you're coming from, and it's offering three tools - two reciprocating saws and a collated screw gun - each priced at only $99. We got a closer look at all three at this year's International Builder's Show.

What Happens in Vegas is NOT Staying in Vegas

Ah, Las Vegas! A city of flashing lights, tinkering slots and mile after mile of entertainment. It's a place where fortunes are made . . . and mostly lost. But in the midst of the glitz and the gaming, Vegas is also home to some of the biggest and best trade shows in the country. This week, it will roll out the red carpet to the International Builder's Show (IBS), where thousands of exhibitors will be gathering to introduce the latest innovative products and services for the building and woodworking industries. Just imagine: a million and a half square feet of convention space, jamb-packed with tools, materials and hardware that could improve your shop and home! Exciting stuff? You bet. Overwhelming? Totally. And, we're going to take your there.

Come along with Field Editor Chris Marshall, as he walks, and walks, and walks the aisles of IBS for the next three days. He'll be searching for what's new and really cool in woodworking and home improvement products, then bringing that home to you in a series of video blogs from the show. Be sure to check our website daily for his updates and discoveries. Then, don't miss upcoming eZines and the "What's in Store" section of our May print issue of Woodworker's Journal, which will feature even more great products from the show. So, strap on your virtual walking shoes, grab a name badge and let's go to the show!
