| RobJohnstone | Hi Evil! |
| rick_l | i knew a rob johnstone from upstate ny...dont suppoase you are the same? |
| wvwcraft | good evening |
| RobJohnstone | Nope, from the frozen tundra of Minnesota. |
| PapaCookie | Good evening from Washington State |
| RobJohnstone | Hello crafty |
| Evil-Winky | Try North Dakota |
| wvwcraft | good evening from the Rockies |
| RobJohnstone | Papa cookie ... is that Girlscout cookie? |
| PapaCookie | Let me clarify that....Central Washington State....not the rainy side of state. |
| PapaCookie | I am a professional Chef/Dietician-Nutritionist/Writer |
| RobJohnstone | Hello Hpznrc, ivan. joe,and all |
| PapaCookie | Woodworking is a hobby......I teach 4-H youth |
| joe | hi rob, thanks for bringing the speaker cabinet back |
| Evil-Winky | Its a living for me |
| RobJohnstone | We are totally retro ... and you are welcome for the speaker cabinet |
| hpxncr | Hi All |
| RobJohnstone | What does the group think the next ten years will bring in woodworking? |
| wvwcraft | I make custom wood furniture for a living. Been doing this for 13 years. |
| rick_l | new composite products.as wood species dry up and get more expensive |
| Jack | Higher costs for wood, especially the exotic South American |
| RobJohnstone | Does veneer have a bigger role in the future? |
| wvwcraft | The next ten years will bring new man-made materials |
| rick_l | sheet goods are out of sight around here |
| Jack | I expect so |
| Evil-Winky | I hope a trend back to traditional styles |
| rick_l | many here use veneer over mdf |
| RobJohnstone | Dresdner, I thought you might have been evil winky or papa cookie |
| wvwcraft | conventional lumber getting more expensive, especially for furniture applications |
| glenn | Is Rob with us yet?? |
| PapaCookie | That means I would have to go buy a saw to cut veneer....crud...I just purchased a Tablesaw, and a compound miter saw with laser...wife gave me a router table for birthday...I don't want to buy anymore equipment for a while |
| Evil-Winky | MDF is much more stable |
| RobJohnstone | I am here and ready for all questions ... even woodworking questions! |
| Dresdner | I don't hide, Rob. I'm too big, and my shirts are too loud for that. |
| RobJohnstone | Makes sense |
| -Sam- | Hi Rob! |
| RobJohnstone | Hey Sam |
| Bill | Hello from Central NY |
| Terry | Wow,lots of people here ,g/day to you all from Wagga Wagga |
| PapaCookie | can anyone recommend a good book on router techniques and one that explains router bits? I am learning how to use... |
| Evil-Winky | Dont under estimate The value of veneers or mdf. Everything has it place |
| glenn | ROB: Whats the word on the "Wood Working Channel" via internet? |
| RobJohnstone | I think it will be starting up soon (if it has not already). |
| Neil | evening all from north west Vt |
| wnc | Hi Rob---what's the best way to prep soft maple so the stain doesn't turn blotchy? |
| rick_l | the people we deal with just cannot accept mdf |
| glenn | Rob: Have been getting updates but, nothing online yet. Frm Glenn, Nueva Jersey |
| jcarver | Rob, Veneer has been used traditionally to cut on costs, however we have an antique table that was veneered which has been appraised as high as most hardwood tables. Can you explain this? |
| RobJohnstone | Veneer is a quality product and produces outstanding furnture. Some cheap furniture is veneered ... but that is not due to the veneer |
| Evil-Winky | You gotta educate them Rick |
| -Sam- | How will the woodworking channel work? Are the shows on a schedule or will we be able to just click and watch? |
| Richard | Hello, From Bessemer Alabama |
| Evil-Winky | Hi Richard |
| Chris | Rob, where do you see lithium ion battery technology taking woodworking in the years to come? |
| RobJohnstone | It is early in the tenure of the technology, but a big wheel at Makita says that it is the future of cordless tools with out a doubt. |
| JoannaTakes | PapaCookie, Ian Kirby's book The Complete Router is a good one. |
| wvwcraft | What's the woodworking channel? |
| RobJohnstone | It is a new website that will broadcast woodworking videos online |
| Chris | So we may be seeing the end of Ni-Cad and even NM Hydride? |
| glenn | To Sam: Unfortunately I don't have digital cable, which would be an example of how the wood working channel will work. Shows online on a schedule around the world. |
| RobJohnstone | That's a good question, what do you folks think? |
| PapaCookie | Thank you JoannaTakes. |
| wvwcraft | Thanks Rob, can you give me the link? |
| jburklow | what is the URL for the website? |
| woodyii | What is the address for the woodworking channel and is it up and running now? |
| RobJohnstone | www.thewoodworkingchannel,com, |
| Neil | it be expensive to replace the tools i have now that are ni - cad |
| Terry | Are many of the people here in the building industry? |
| Evil-Winky | Gotta check that out |
| Jack | Just attended the Woodworker show in Milwaukee. Expected to see some new tools and jigs but everthing was pretty much the same. A lot of folks showing how to adjust/tune your power tools. What's in store for us in the line of new tools going forward? |
| RobJohnstone | All I can tell you is that the tool companies are working hard to come up with new products that you just could not say no to. |
| jburklow | your link has a comma in it |
| glenn | Nope. Just a hobbist. Finished a nice checkerboard and some easter decorations, |
| rick_l | hard to reinvent the wheel |
| sg | the link is thewoodworkingchannel.com |
| scott.denison | Build Display Cases for a "second" living. |
| marciaf | I work in the kitchen/vanity cabinet industry as a co-op student ^_^ |
| Terry | I'm a bricklayer by trade but do quite a bit of woodwork after work and on weekends |
| rsteffey | Rob will WJ be doing any Green and Green articles or projects in the near future? |
| RobJohnstone | We have a couple in the hopper. One is an entertainment center for the new flat screen TV's, in the style of the Greene brothers |
| wvwcraft | battery technology is like computers. It's always changing. Has a long way to go before it is settled |
| rick_l | trim carpenter /cabint maker here |
| marciaf | the chat system is weird here, I think I screwed that one up. Sorry about the double send! |
| JoannaTakes | It's OK, Marcia. :) |
| Bill | Weekend warrior, myself |
| glenn | Anyone on this chat use a scrollsaw much? Have a tendancy to get cramps in my hands and wondering how to avoid. |
| RobJohnstone | Oop, and I almost forgot the Greene and Greene Adorondack chair in the May June issue |
| Evil-Winky | Gotta admire bricklayers, tough job |
| Jack | Just a hobbyist...plan to do a lot more woodworking in retirement which is just around the corner |
| -Sam- | Thanks glenn, I missed your post, I was getting my coffee ready. |
| Evil-Winky | Ive been in custom woodworking for 20 years |
| woodyii | A channel like that could and would be a great benifit |
| Chris | What does everyone think of what seems to be a renaissance in quality hand tools (i.e. Bridge City, Lie Nielsen, etc.)? Are you folks heavy into hand tools, or is yours a power tool shop? Or a mix of both? |
| Terry | Rick,is a trim carpenter the one who does the inside fix outs? |
| rsteffey | A entertainment center in G &G will be interesting. |
| Neil | im a disabled vet and do this for a hobby |
| Terry | I've been bricklaying for almost 37 years now Evil-Winky ,started when i was 15 |
| RobJohnstone | I think hand tools will gain some popularity in the next few years |
| Evil-Winky | Chris, just go what works for you |
| glenn | I think everyone looking forward to the new "WWC" online. Reed has some outstanding ideas. |
| RobJohnstone | Neil, which war were you in? |
| rick_l | inside fix outs? |
| marciaf | most of the machines I work with are computerized. CNC and edge banders at the moment. I'd like to get more experience with hand tools, but I find I'm better with CNC. |
| wvwcraft | Glenn: Take frequent breaks and move your hands around to help with your hands cramping |
| floyd | i'm making a cherry table top it is starting to cup, i put some pieces onn the underside to help flatten it out , but it's not working, help |
| Neil | none i was in during the iran hostages |
| -Sam- | Rob, do you still have any old tools you still use today? If so which one? |
| RobJohnstone | I have a bunch. One of my favorites is a 1960 Stanely router. I call it my tower of power (a half a horse power) |
| Evil-Winky | doesnt matter what works for others, just do what your happy with. But Ideas are always good. Keep an open mind |
| Terry | We call fitting of doors ,skirtings ,architraves around windows etc Fix-outs in Australia Rick |
| rick_l | did you glue up a top, ho many pieces, reeverse cup? |
| scott.denison | How thick is the Table top? |
| Jack | Did you alternate the grain, bark side in and out on every other board? |
| RobJohnstone | What time is it down under? |
| rick_l | I use block planes and chiels all the time |
| floyd | one inchthick |
| floyd | 42 |
| floyd | ' |
| Chris | Floyd: The tabletop will probably flatten out when you attach it to the aprons. Is it still just a glued up panel at this point? |
| Terry | 1.17pm Rob,I'm home as I"ve just had a hernia repair last week |
| scott.denison | Solid, or laminate? |
| glenn | Sam: Thanks. Don't know why cramping up. Just made 58 checkers today and feeling it hours later. |
| floyd | 42" wide 7 pieces and alternated them |
| Terry | So my son a couple of mates are holding the fort at work |
| RobJohnstone | Ouch! |
| Jack | Another thought...did you use cauls or weights to hold the entire surface down when you did the glue up? |
| walnut | just read you 2-14 e-news ...GREAT |
| RobJohnstone | Thanks |
| -Sam- | Wow, Rob! It must be a low powered unit. That's cool! |
| floyd | i already tried to flatten it that way but no good |
| sg | Hi all, just a note for my fellow "lurkers" -- If you hang out for a while and don't say anything, the chat software may time out on you. If it does, just refresh the page and log in again. |
| RobJohnstone | And it is very noisy! |
| John_M | What kind of glue do you use the most.... |
| walnut | ha ha |
| floyd | it was flat to start with, but in the last 3 weeks its cupped more |
| RobJohnstone | Depends on what I an doing ... what about you guy |
| RobJohnstone | |
| PapaCookie | Hey Joanna...I have searched for the book at several online bookstores....can't find it...is it out of print? |
| JoannaTakes | Did you try Cambium Press? |
| wvwcraft | how much cupping on the table top? |
| BacsiBob | Guess I better say Hi!, from bleak and desolate NW Ohio |
| BMerr | Tite bond |
| dmc | try angle iron to help with the flatness |
| Dale | Don't want to get timed out. This is interesting - my first time in a chat room. |
| dantonrj | Just saying hello from the frozen north(Canada) so I don't time out. |
| Chris | I like the new TItebond 3, but I still notice some creep over time. |
| RobJohnstone | To flatten that table, rip down the length and re-glue -- that may do the trick |
| Evil-Winky | Floyd I usually flute back and Ive never had one come back |
| Dresdner | SG: Is that you, Sgian? |
| sg | fellow lurkers unite! good to hear from all of you (c: |
| turtledove | Hello from Illinois....just lurking and learning |
| scott.denison | If you can flatten it with weight I'd try to attach the apron with cross-supports and see if it stabilizes. |
| floyd | from one side to the other with a straight edge in the middle about 3/8" |
| Terry | I have used some big weights to straighten out some cupped pieces of timber, the barbell type ones |
| Bill_Nichols | hello from south alabama |
| BacsiBob | Chris, that's what the brads are for |
| sg | Nope sg from wj (c: |
| jjsaintla | hello from Louisiana |
| Bill | Rob, on glue, can a chart be generated to show various times on different popular wood glues sometime |
| RobJohnstone | Franklin Glue has a great website that I am pretty sure has the chart you are asking about. I love their site. |
| Terry | You can concentrate the weight pretty well with them I've found, but of course not always |
| Luis | Hello everybody from Montreal |
| rbadum | Hello from PA.... I'd like some advise on what band saw to buy.... |
| RobJohnstone | That's a good question, what do you folks think? |
| glenn | ? to chat. How can u make a boarder in oak with "Tight" miters? Just finished a checker board, and no matter how hard I tried, still a slight gap. |
| Chief | Hello From Kansas. |
| floyd | should i add any moisture to either side first? |
| PapaCookie | Thanks Joanna..it wasn't there either. |
| JoannaTakes | Dresdner, what's Richard Sorsky's web site? |
| Terry | Hello Luis,how are you going? |
| scott.denison | Same here with the weights - that old weight bench finally has a use! |
| Bruce | Have you started to finish the table top? You do need to finish both sides equally. |
| sparsparkster | Bob I'm in Defiance Oh, Didn't realize there where other ww in OH. I thought that because all the shows are someplace else. |
| Jack | Depends on what you want to use it for |
| prestonbill | hello from the great northwet. just a time out quest. |
| DanWKelly | So I don't time out hello from VA |
| jjsaintla | seeing the history tonight about cost of wood, i cannot but tell you all the 100's of thousands of board feet of wood that is being destroyed down in the hurricane areas, really pains my heart |
| jcarver | I've been very happy with my Grizzly 14" bandsaw |
| wvwcraft | I just bought a Jet 16". Great machine. |
| Terry | G/day Chief |
| richwood | hello from marshall,tx...hello toall |
| cfs001 | Hello from Iowa. |
| WoodApprentice | I don't own a bandsaw yet myself, so I'd be interested in the answer for rbadum as well. |
| rsteffey | The one most people think is the best is the mm16 |
| BacsiBob | Glenn: An old finish carpenter trick....cut it oversized and belt sand it to fit |
| Jack | If you are cutting them on a table saw, a miter jig, even a homemade one, does great miters |
| floyd | i'm just in the sanding stage |
| rick_l | i have a Jet 18" good for my all around needs |
| Chris | I love my Laguna 16HD, but the ceramic guides are expensive to replace. I haven't had to replace them yet, but they will chip if the blade breaks. And, the blades are pretty spendy. |
| Dresdner | Don't know, Joanna. Who is Richard Sorsky? |
| JoannaTakes | You are no help. |
| Terry | Yes,thats right Scott,they were finally good for something |
| rbadum | What did the Grizzly cost you? |

| rsteffey | I have a old 14 inch Delta and a older 20 inch Delta and I wouldn't swap for anything new |

| Dresdner | Nothing new there... |
| mark | to rj, hope you can keep this in some semblance of order |
| Chief | Just bought A 14" Craftsman Works good. Have to buy their blades or make your own. Thier 99 3/4" |
| rbadum | I'm concerned about buying too small a saw.... should I go with at leant a 14 inch |
| -Sam- | Rob, if you could have the skills of a well known woodworker, who would it be? |
| RobJohnstone | I think it would be my friend Ian Kirby ... but I would want his knowledge too, |
| SteveDallas | I am re-finishing a "newly raw" ponderosa pine table top made by my father-in-law in 1968. We plan to use it in our cabin and I am looking for a good non-blochy medium brown//orange stain to use under some type of poly (for durability). I'm considering garnet shellac.. any comments? Would BLO or Teak Oil bloch on pine? |
| sparsparkster | I'm about to go with MM 24" bandsaw |
| PapaCookie | Hello fellow Northwesterners |
| genereyn | I'm using a Rikon 18" with a Lenox bimetal 1" blade for ripping and resawing. Pretty nice. |
| jcarver | I think the Grizzly was 375 + 50 for shipping. Their website at www.grizzley.com is very easy to nagigate. |
| rbadum | thanks for advise on the bandsaw guys... |
| sawblade | Hello for Fl. |
| Evil-Winky | Salute to the moderater |
| RobJohnstone | It has gone way out of control, sorry Mark. |
| wvwcraft | I use a Incra miter sled on my table saw for miters. Can get them very accurate |
| Dale | I've gp an old Woodmizer 3 wheeler- don't know if they're still being made. Beeen a good one. |
| glenn | To BacsiBob: Actually I tried that and created more problems than fixes. The gap I'm talking about is 1/32 of an inch on 1 miter. Guess that's why we have wood filler. |
| Terry | Good thanks mate,are you a keen woodworker? |
| floyd | how did i fasten what? |
| -Sam- | ::biggrin |
| jcarver | Just looked on the website again and it is 425 + shipping |
| sg | hey all just posting so I can continue to lurk |

| FL_AL | THINKING OF BUYING A GENERAL 50-185M TABLE SAW, ANYONE HAVE ANYTHING GOOD OR BAD TO SAY ABOUT THIS SAW --- THANKS |
| RobJohnstone | Which one is that. Cabinet saw or contractors? |
| marcoswoodworks | hey whats up, i'm i in the wrong room I thought that this chat session was on how we started woodworking or did i miss it |
| JoannaTakes | It's a free-flowing conversation. You can still answer that question if you'd like. |
| dantonrj | What do most of you pay for wood. I can get red oak for $2.00 a board foot and cherry for 3. Is this about the norm for undressed lumber? |
| Evil-Winky | Its all beautiful |
| mark | cherry,oak,sassafras,and butternut |
| Guido | I made a set of custom pistol grips from cherry for my son |
| sg | Night, Glenn |
| BacsiBob | Night Glenn |
| Evil-Winky | I agree Rob |
| rsteffey | Scott most of my shop is owwm |
| Jack | Oak is nice to work with |
| glenn | SOOOOOOOOOOOlong Rob. Keep us posted on next chat OK? |
| JoannaTakes | We will. (And keep checking the schedule page at www.woodworkersjournal.com/chat |
| rollenburg | anyone have a "good" palm sander that they like?? |
| richwood | I HAVE A HAND DRILL |
| Bill | Scott; Just revived an old Craftsman 4" joiner, working great! |
| Guido | Why do my comments keep showing up as questijons? |
| Terry | I use lots of pine here as I get it for nothing from my brother''s transportable home business. They throw heaps of radiata pine, treated pine and cypress pine away |
| wvwcraft | Rob, What would you say would be a good all around circular saw blade? |
| RobJohnstone | For a table saw or chop saw. There are some really good combination blades out there. Red, orange and silver ... they all cut good |
| DanWKelly | I have a lot of pine flooring I took out of a 1762 farm house my son owned. I cant work with it because of the way it gums up my sanding belts on my drum sander. |
| FL_AL | THATS A CONTRACTORS' SAW |
| Chris | Anyone think quartersawn oak isn't what it used to be, in terms of workability? Some say the new growth lumber isn't all that stable anymore. |
| marciaf | I'm in canada so the prices are somewhat skewed by exchange... |
| Terry | It all turns out pretty well for appearance after it is stained |
| Dresdner | My Festool is my favorite sander |
| BacsiBob | Mark..never worked butternut..we have some trees in the back yard...what is it like? |
| cincitoolman joined. | |
| Evil-Winky | If your gonna paint, Poplar is #1 |
| PapaCookie | yeah...I love my B&D Mouse Sander... |
| Neil | Rob, what do you think of the Freud glue line saw balde? |
| RobJohnstone | Freud makes great product. I was at their factory in Italy and it was very impressive. Very high tech. |
| JIM | WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE GRIP TITE IS IT WORTH THE MONEY |
| Gene_bowman | This is great. I am 83 and took my traiining at Palomar College in Escondido, Ca. in 87 and 88. Gene Bowman |
| Jack | right now I am paying 3.25 bd ft for Red Oak 4/4 skip planed to 15/16 |
| sparsparkster | guido Mine too I think it's suppose to |
| Jack | Freud or Amana are the blades of choice for my shop |
| Evil-Winky | Salute to you Gene |
| wvwcraft | Dewalt makes a nice comfy palm sander with litte vibration |
| marcoswoodworks | Its Been A Pleasure,Well Talk At ya Later Marco |
| DanWKelly | I just brought a 5 horse delta table saw and when I asked about a blade stiffner I was told that it was not necessary. I was told to use a regular blad and not a thin Kert blade. Is this right? |
| Dresdner | Gene -- look for an article on Palomar College in the upcoming issue of the eZine this coming Tuesday. |
| -Sam- | Rob, what's the best way to get a back issue? I was interested in getting the October 2005 issue. "Adrift in a Sea of Cordless Drills" I'm shopping for a cordless drill and want to make the right decision in getting one. For everybody else, which drill is your favorite and why? |
| RobJohnstone | I am sorry to say that we are sold out of that issue. It was very popular |
| sg | Bye, Marco |
| mark | butternut is softer than walnut and can be fuzzy, but it is a pale walnut |
| floyd | well got t go ty bye |
| Evil-Winky | Thats right Gene |
| scott.denison | B&D Mouse - for a palm sander |
| Chris | Buying "shorts" can be a great way to save money on hardwood. Not too long ago, I paid $1.50 BF for white oak, and the pieces are darn clear. But, they're random lengths in 4 to 6 ft. |
| PapaCookie | Right now I am working on an N-Scale Model Railroad Layout.... |
| Jack | Panasonic hands down |
| marciaf | at my work we use a lot of dewalt drills. the smaller ones are really nice for people with small hands like me... |
| Evil-Winky | I have the same saw |
| RobJohnstone | Dan, you don't need a blade stiffener. I don't use one even with a thin kerf blade |
| rollenburg | I use Dewalt cordless drills in my school shop and they hold up to 9th and 11th graders!! Now, that's really putting them to the test!! They have worked good! |
| Evil-Winky | Agree Rob |
| BacsiBob | Sam..I have 2 PC 9 v. and 2 14 v. I love 'em cause they are like the Eveready Bunny |
| Dresdner | I agree. I use thin kerf blades without stiffeners |
| DanWKelly | Rob thank you. |
| Chris | I still like my old P-C random orbit palm sander. I think the model is 333. Definitely stick with hook and loop pads. |
| -Sam- | Ouch! Thanks for letting me know Rob. Is it safe to let me know which of the drills was picked as the best one overall? |
| JoannaTakes | Send an email to editor@woodworkersjournal.com and we'll let you know the picks in the different categories. |
| Gene_bowman | What do you th;ink of African Mahjogony for making Tables and bookcases Gene B |
| richwood | ooops .walnut |
| Evil-Winky | deWalt series 40 blades are great |
| BacsiBob | Another vote for PC sanders..quarter sheet and RO 5" |
| Evil-Winky | and I like Lefse to |
| Dale | Just bought a Ridgid combo from Home Depot - ask them about the lifetime warranty - even on the batteries. |
| PapaCookie | Well folks...this was enjoyable...I need to run....May you always have good food, good drink, great friends to share with, and the blessings of God in your lives!! Vaya con Dios mis amigas y amigos! |
| -Sam- | rollenburg and BacsiBob, thanks for your reply! |
| rollenburg | I have an 18 v. at home and I love it...but it does get heavy! Depends on the jobs you're doing. I think If I havd to do it again I'd buy the 14.4V. |
| richwood | What do I need to watch out for on cutting /resawing black walnur? |
| RobJohnstone | Resawing is best done with a wide blade. Also, I like a point fence that will allow you to adjust to blade drift or a warping cut off. In general, a steady feed rate and an eye to blade drift |
| sg | Good night, PapaCookie |
| Jack | Vaya con Dios Buenos Noche |
| Neil | good night papa |
| scott.denison | For those of you who do this for a living: Any good tips for Web advertising your business? |
| Chris | Fein's new HandyMaster drills are pretty nice. Lightweight, easy to grip and with nice controls. Kind of spendy, however, but seem to be extremely well made. |
| FL_AL | GOOD NIGHT ALL |
| RobJohnstone | Talk to SG |
| -Sam- | Thank you very much, JoannaTakes! I really need the info! |
| JoannaTakes | That's (part of) my job. ;) |
| RobJohnstone | By Al |
| rollenburg | When I resaw, I will cut up from each edge with my table saw and then finish cutting on the band saw...seems to work better for me. |
| richwood | THANKS HEARD FROM PAUL SELLERS LATELY? |
| sg | Advertising is available in our the Woodworker's Journal eZine (c: call 800-878-7137 to talk to our sales folks. |
| wvwcraft | I recently made a pair of coffee tables using African Mahogany. They look great! Making matching end tables now |
| Luis | It was very interesting. Good night all |
| -Sam- | JoannaTakes, if I send email now, will I get the info right away? |
| JoannaTakes | No, I don't have the back issues with me now. (And I need to go to bed before going to the office tomorrow.) You will get your answer tomorrow. |
| rsteffey | Thanks for the fellowship got a hard day tomorrow so later.BFN |
| cincitoolman | Rob, I want to buy an 8" jointer. I have read at least three different reviews on them. I am still confused on the choice of the cutter head: straight knife or one of the spiral heads. Any advice? |
| RobJohnstone | The spiral head has real advantages. Even more if it is a true helix and not just a simple spiral. You really pay for the extra technology, but if you can afford it, I recommend it. With that said, there have been millions of board feet of lumber cut with a traditional head. |
| Gene_bowman | Let us do this more often when is the next one Gene |
| JoannaTakes | The next chat is scheduled for March 21 with WJ turner Betty Scarpino. You can sign up for a reminder on the woodworkersjournal.com/chat page. |
| scott.denison | Thanks sg! |
| Jack | nite |
| Terry | See you Luis |
| jonez | What is the subject or is it a free for all |
| JoannaTakes | Woodturning. |
| sg | you're welcome, scott |
| cincitoolman | thanks for the advise on the jointer cutter head |
| wvwcraft | Good night all. Had fun. Thanks |
| RobJohnstone | But it might be a free for all! |
| RobJohnstone | by wwcraft |
| Chris | I've also heard that the carbide inserts on a spiral cutterhead don't cut as well as traditional steel knives. But, who can argue with how much faster they are to change out! I'd like to try one and see. |
| Bruce | Dresdner, I'm in the process of building a Hall/Sofa Table out 1/4 Sawn White Oak. I plan to finish it with Watco Danish Oil. My wife will be using it for a potted plants. Will Watco Wipe-on Poly be better or should I use Polyurathane varnish to protect it from spilled water. |
| marciaf | is the chat just one hour? |
| JoannaTakes | Yes; we'll be ending pretty soon here. |
| Bill | This is great, to see all in real time |
| sparsparkster | Well Bob You didn't answer my ? Can you make me as good as Ian Kerby in 12 easy lessons? |
| RobJohnstone | Yes, If you promise to practise hard for five or ten years between lessons. |
| -Sam- | Thank you Joanna! Oops, sorry, for some weird reason I thought you guys were in the office! Thank you very, very much! |
| JoannaTakes | No...we don't hang out there *all* the time. |
| BacsiBob | Speaking of cordless drills..I just bought my first (14v.) cordless impact driver. It is the only way to drive screws. I put a #8 deck screw thru a piece of hickory without drilling..it split the wood and kept going. |
| Neil | well time for me to go to bed, good night all and thank you for the intersting chat |
| Dresdner | Bruce -- any of those three will protect from water spills provided they form a thick enough film and that you do not let the water sit too long. |
| rollenburg | I got here late..have fun...see ya next time...thanks |
| RobJohnstone | Ta ta Neil |
| Terry | Goodnight Neil |
| sg | good night, Neil. Glad you found the chat interesting |
