Woodworkers looking to invest in a full-capacity table saw with an integrated wheel base have four new options from Delta. These 5000 Series saw models have many of the same features but differ in terms of their extension wing composition — either stamped steel or cast iron — and the length of the rip fence rails. In terms of the essentials, these saws come with a 1.75hp, 15-amp totally enclosed, fan-cooled induction motor for powerful, quiet operation. The motors are wired for 120 volts, but they can be rewired for 240-volt service as well. A 5/8-in.-diameter arbor spins 10-in. saw blades, and Delta provides a built-in arbor lock to make blade changes easier. These saws will cut material up to 3-1/2-in. thick with the blade set to 90 degrees, or up to 2-1/4-in. thick when the blade is tilted left to 45 degrees. The arbor assembly is also designed to accept 8-in.-diameter dado blades up to 13/16-in. wide. For safety, the four saws come with quick-release riving knives and anti-kickback pawls. The two-piece blade guard, with sides that raise and lower independently, is made of clear plastic for better visibility of the cutting area.
The saws are equipped with 20-in.-wide, 27-in.-deep cast-iron tables, full-size miter gauges and T-square style Biesemeyer rip fences that glide on a robust fence rail system. A large easy-to-access On/Off switch powers the machines up or down, while a shroud below the blade directs sawdust into a 2-1/2-dia. dust port for easy connection to a standard shop vacuum. A 4-in. adapter is also included to connect the saws to a dust collector hose.
Delta’s new 5000-series table saws are easy to move around the shop, thanks to a tubular steel legset outfitted with two fixed wheels, a swiveling caster and a one-touch foot pedal lock/release.
Now, to the model differences. Delta’s model 36-5000 saw ($1099.99) comes with two stamped-steel extension wings and fence rails that allow up to 30-in. of ripping capacity to the right of the blade. For $200 more, you could buy the 36-5100 model with the same 30-in. ripping capacity but outfitted with two cast-iron extension wings instead of steel ($1299.99). Or, for up to 52 in. of ripping capacity, choose Delta’s 36-5052 model ($1299.99) with longer fence rails and two stamped-steel extension wings. A 52-in. rip capacity saw is also available with two cast-iron extension wings, as Delta’s model 36-5152. It sells for $1,499.99. Prices listed here are the manufacturer’s suggested retail.
