Is Madrone Any Good for Woodworking ?

This reader has some madrone, likes the look of it and wonders if it’s any good for woodworking (and why he hasn’t seen more of it).

Ellis Walentine: Madrone is native to the Pacific Northwest and isn’t widely distributed commercially. In my experience, the wood is friendly to work, turns nicely and finishes well. Some of the nicest madrone I’ve ever used was in the form of burl veneer.
