New 12-in. Delta Disc Sander Offers Easier Table Tilting

Typical 12-in. benchtop disc sanders usually have a pair of handles on either end of the table to adjust and lock the tilt setting, but Delta promises to make that set-up easier to accomplish with its new 31-140 model. It has a single control on the left end of the table that both tilts and locks it, offering dual-purpose convenience.

Additionally, the 6-1/4- x 17-1/4-in. cast-iron table tips both left and right, with detents at 22.5, 45 and 90 degrees. Another helpful feature of this machine is an integral dust collection fan that draws dust away from the table and into an included dust hose with a 2-1/4-in. (O.D.) connector. The connector should fit any standard shop vacuum hose. Some features from previous Delta disc sanders remain the same on this 1/2hp machine. It has a heavy-duty steel disc for accurate sanding and a top-mounted manual brake that stops the disc quickly.

The table is milled with a 3/8- x 3/4-in. miter gauge slot, and its cast-iron base is drilled with fastener holes so the machine can be secured to a bench top. A miter gauge, wrenches and one 80-grit adhesive-backed disc come standard with the tool, but two-packs of 50-, 80- and 120-grit discs are also available. The new Delta 31-140 12-in. Disc Sander has a suggested retail price of $239.99.
