New Makita 18-volt Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Building on its 18-volt LXT Lithium-ion tool platform, Makita just unveiled the new LXSL01 7-1/2 in. Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw. It is one of more than 40 tool options powered by the same battery system. This saw’s carriage slides on four steel rails with four linear ball bearings to ensure smooth, accurate cuts. A direct-drive motor, which Makita says increases cutting efficiency and “requires less maintenance than belt-drive models,” produces 2,200 rpm. An electric brake helps to maximize repetitive cutting productivity by stopping the blade more quickly. When the blade is set for a square cut, the LXSL01 has 2-1/16 in. of vertical capacity and can crosscut a 2 x 12; swivel it to a 45 degree compound-miter cut and it will still crosscut a 2 x 8. You can make miter cuts up to 47 degrees left and 57 degrees right or tip the saw to  make 45 degree left- or 5 degree right-bevel cuts. Makita equips the the tool’s aluminum table with miter detents at 0 degrees as well as 15, 22.5, 30 and 45 degrees in both directions. Designed with contractors and installers in mind, the new slider weighs just 27.5 lbs for easier transport to jobsites. It’s available now in two configurations: with two batteries and a 30-minute Rapid Optimum Charger for $799 or as Model LXSL01Z (saw only) for $599.
