This project plan appeared in Woodworker's Journal Volume 12, Issue 3, Page 28. May/Jun 1988. This incredibly well-illustrated plan, complete with 24 photos and complete
full-sized patterns, is a superb way to get into decoy carving. Loons are special
birds: their bone structure is very dense, so they can dive to amazing depths
to catch fish. They have been recorded as far down as 200 feet below the surface.
This particular carving is scaled to half size: a mature loon is a rather large
bird.
Approx: 13" long
