This large (42" diameter) spinning wheel was used exclusively
to spin wool fleece into yarn, and it played a much more important role than
the small treadle wheel that used to spin flax into linen. Because of its size,
it was known as a "walking wheel". This will be a fully functional
wheel wheel when completed. Part 1 of the plan includes the table, legs, great
wheel and wheel posts. Part 2 addresses the spindle and tension devices, plus
