Drilling Holes in Dowel Ends

Drilling holes in the ends of dowel rods is awkward because they're hard to clamp vertically. The answer is to use two handscrews together, as shown below. With this setup you can easily slide your dowel rod around on the drill press table until it is exactly centered under the bit
