Q. Hand screw clamps: this woodworker in New Zealand is building model boats and needs clamps that will work with non-parallel surfaces. He read about these in Patrick Spielman's writings and wonders what they are and where to get them?

(Michael Dresdner) "I'm sorry, but here's where a picture is worth a thousand words. Hand screws do indeed clamp non parallel, and you can buy them at any woodworking specialty store or catalog, and at most American tool outlets as well. As for New Zealand, I can't tell you where to get them but I suspect any serious furniture maker or guitarmaker in the area will know."
