I have painted wooden floors in my workshop and a little sawdust makes for a dangerously slick surface. When I found out that boatbuilders use crushed walnut shells for a non-skid deck, I thought I'd give it a try. I bought half a pound from the local paint store, poured half of it into the can of paint, gave it a good shaking, then painted the area around the table saw. It works great! In case anyone is wondering, you can't do this with sand because it sinks right to the bottom of the can.
