Tabletop Biscuit Fasteners
|
"Buttons" are often used to connect a solid wood tabletop to its base or aprons. Instead of making buttons in the conventional way (small L-shaped pieces of hardwood with a tongue protruding from one edge), I prefer to use biscuits. I glue them into blocks so one half of the biscuit projects as shown. This engages with a similar slot in the apron so the tabletop is firmly held, but can still move with seasonal change. It's fast, easy, and very strong.
