Description:
The Sonoma County Woodworkers Association is now calling for pieces for the 2008 Artistry in Wood show, which will open on July 12th. The show is open to all woodworkers. This is the 20th show at the Sonoma County Museum in Santa Rosa, CA. We are seeking entries in the following categories:
1. Furniture - traditional, contemporary, reproductions, accessories, and art furniture,
2. Turning - face and center work
3. Architectural - millwork, doors, stairs, etc.
4. Art - sculpture, carvings, intarsia, marquetry, veneering
5. Miscellany- musical instruments, tools, toys, treen
The deadline for pieces is Monday, July 7th.

Description:
Each year the San Diego Fine Woodworking Association sponsors a fall seminar featuring a well-known and published woodworker lecturing and demonstrating woodworking techniques. This year we are pleased to announce Robert Lang who will lecture on design and construction while building a sideboard in the craftsman style. A barbequed lunch each full day and one of his books are included, as part of the admission price along with breakfast/continual daily refreshments and at each break door prizes will be given out. The price for all this is the best deal to be found anywhere in the woodworking world ($90 for SDFWA Members and $115 for non-members (includes 2008 membership with all of its discount benefits).
Seating is limited, so sign up early!

"It Grows On Trees-II" is a woodworking competition open to people from all of Michigan and from northern OH, northern IN, and northern IL (the emerald ash borer area). "It Grows On Trees-II" encourages the use of ash and salvaged/local wood, but is not limited to those timbers. $1200 in cash prizes, in several categories. Juried, travelling exhibit will be shown in 3 or more Michigan locations, June--Sept 2008. Entry deadline April 30.

Description:
This year’s Championship will be opening weekend (October 4 & 5) at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta®, with auction proceeds from completed sculptures benefiting the Make A Wish® Foundation of New Mexico. This year promises to be an exciting time at the Fiesta in that the Championship weekend will also host the Gordon Bennett International Gas Balloon Race and the Americas Gas Balloon Challenge.
The 2008 ECHO Championship carving theme will follow the Balloon Fiesta’s theme, “Launching Dreams,” which also correlates well with the Make a Wish® Foundation’s mission. The carvers will have a total of 20 hours to compete their pieces. They will be judged on Sunday and immediately auctioned on site.

Devilbiss, Binks, and Owens Community College have teamed up to present a Spray Finishing Technology Workshop. This three-day intensive training program is scheduled for September 10-12 2008, in Toledo, Ohio. Classes meet from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm daily and include both classroom and hands-on sessions. Two Continuing Education Units are awarded. Attendees should be involved with industrial, contractor, or maintenance spray finishing applications, or spray equipment sales and distribution. Topics for the Spray Finishing Technology Workshop include: Equipment types & selection; Equipment setup, operation, and maintenance; Surface preparation & defect analysis; Material selection; and Safety & regulatory concerns.
