Woodworker's Journal eZine Staff

Editorial Staff

Editor in Chief - Rob Johnstone
Rob Johnstone has been part of Woodworker's Journal's since 1997, becoming editor of the print magazine in 1998 and editor in chief in 2007. He began woodworking at age 13 in his family-owned cabinet shop and, as an adult, trained to become an accomplished luthier. He eventually opened his own cabinetry and custom fine woodworking business. Rob has brought many of the most well-known authors in woodworking to the Journal's pages and introduced innovative concepts such as the Woodworker's Journal eZine and the Woodworker's Journal Online Survey. When, in his free time, Rob isn't woodworking, he enjoys hunting for sharp-tailed grouse with his bird dog, playing music and/or listening to his son's rock band and cooking on his high-tech stove.
eZine Editor - Michael Dresdner
Michael Dresdner is a nationally known finishing expert and a regular contributor to Woodworker’s Journal. His column on finishing appears in each issue of the print magazine, and he writes a large portion of the Woodworker’s Journal eZine. Michael has also written several books on finishing, including The New Wood Finishing Book and Wood Finishing Fixes: Quick Answers to Over 175 Most Frequently Asked Questions. Michael is a member of the local woodworking guild in Puyallup, Washington and an active community theater participant.
Senior Editor - Joanna Werch Takes
Joanna Werch Takes has been at Woodworker's Journal since 1998. Her work includes writing and editing for many print magazine departments, among them the "Stumpers" mystery tool department. Joanna is also a frequent contributor to the Woodworker's Journal eZine. Joanna's previous experience includes work as a newspaper reporter. Her woodworking has consisted of small projects such as toys and a storage box. She is active in the Women of Today service organization.
Featured Editorial - Simon Watts
"From a very early age, I had an interest in how things worked and in making things with my hands," explained Simon Watts. That interest could have taken him in many directions, but fortunately for woodworkers, it led to Simon's lifelong involvement in woodworking. Over the years, he's emerged as a leading authority on the subject, both as a builder and teacher of furniture making and boatbuilding and as an author and editor of numerous articles and books on the vast subject.
