Labeling Chippers and Shims

Labeling Chippers and Shims

If you cut many box joints or dadoes for cabinet shelving, you know how important it is to get a precise fit. When I finally arrive at that perfect combination of chippers and shims, I use a permanent marker to label each of the blade parts. Then I record which chippers and shims I used for the cut on a recipe card I keep stored in my dado blade case. That way, I never have to experiment the next time I need to replicate the cutting width. I just pull out the appropriate card, match up the proper chippers and shims and I’m ready to start cutting. Perfect width every time!
