When I cobbled my lathe bench together, I wanted to have my turning tools “close at hand.” Some PVC pipe, epoxy glue and some well-placed holes worked fine….
I printed out close-up photos of the business-ends of the tools and taped them over the respective openings. The slow-speed grinder is now on another bench and there’s a bed extension on the lathe, too.
Because the tools have different overall lengths (which decrease as they’re resharpened,) I slid 1.25” dowel pieces into the tubes so that each handle sticks out about 1.5” or so. As the tools get shorter, I replace the dowels or “shim them” so the handles “sit proud” of the tube by about the same amount.
