These are my first attempts at building any furniture. My priority was skill building, and both of these projects have brought me a long way. The king size bed is made of 8/4 hard maple and was assembled by way of mortise & tenon joinery. I used a water based polyurethane on both projects. I rubbed out the finish with Sure Buff pads on a random orbital sander and an automotive polishing compound, then did the same with a paste furniture wax, and I have to say that this was an incredibly pleasing learning experience. The finish is just about flawless.
