Sometimes you feel like a dual bevel, sometimes you don’t…if your woodworking needs require only a single bevel miter saw, you might want to look into Bosch’s new 10″ slide, the 4405.
A replacement for the 3915 model, the 4405 has a 13-amp motor that spins the blade at a nifty 4,700 rpm. It also has what Bosch says are exclusive “Up-front Controls”: all levers, controls and adjustments are on the front of the saw — so you don’t have to reach your hand ’round back to change something.
If you do need to change the miter angle, for example, there’s a miter override trigger that lets you set the angle anywhere within the saw’s range. The integrated miter stop is at the regular dentents of 31.6 degrees, 33.9 degrees and 45 degrees. The miter scale is cast-in, and Bosch has patented their miter locking system: the system compensates for wear over time to ensure accurate miters for the life of the tool.
Also featuring quick-release fences, with scales, slides left, and dual sliding outfeeds extend material support from 21 to 36 inches. Cutting capacity for the saw includes 12″ base molding or 10-1/4″ crown molding lying flat, or 3-1/2″ base and 4-1/4″ crown molding against a fence.
The miter range for this single-bevel saw is 52 degrees left to 60 degrees right. The 4405 sells for $488; you can find out more at www.boschtools.com.
