Ushering in the latest technologies of small-shop CNC, Rockler recently introduced the new CNC Shark Black Diamond Edition. Aside from its black anodized aluminum and high-density polypropylene construction and diamond-plate detailing, this machine comes with a CNC Shark Touchplate and groundbreaking Virtual Zero software. The combination of these features enables the Black Diamond to “map” the surface of its table or your workpiece, then uses this map as a dynamic reference point. That eliminates deviations during routing which can result from a distorted or warped workpiece or inconsistencies in the table surface. CNC Shark has enhanced this new model with improved electronics and adjustable bearings that offer both smoother movement for the router and enhanced stability during heavy cutting. It also has a stronger drive system than other Shark models, and the X and Y axis have supported linear bearing guides. Precision stainless leadscrews and backlash reducing nuts also help ensure reliable cutting accuracy.
The Black Diamond’s extended aluminum T-slot top measures 28-1/2 x 36 in., large enough to accommodate workpieces up to 25 in. square. The Z axis provides sufficient travel for workpieces up to 7-in. thick. A mount for a 2.25hp router motor is included, and the Black Diamond is fully compatible with the following seven router models: Bosch 1617 and 1618, Porter-Cable 690 and 890 series, and DeWALT 610, 616 and 618 machines. The router is not included.
The Black Diamond comes with VCarve Pro 7.0/Cut 3-D software package, a USB interface for a PC computer equipped with a 2.0 port, a 1/2-dia. V-groove bit and two hold-down clamps. Rocker is also including a set of five CNC router bits and a $50 Rockler gift card with this limited edition machine.
