Goodbye Steve Blenk

Rob-Portrait351For some situations there are no appropriate words. I arrived at work Monday morning to find an e-mail from Susan Blenk, the wife of my contributing editor and regular turning columnist, Steve Blenk. The message was short but very sad. Steve had been killed in an auto accident on the afternoon of November 24th, the day before Thanksgiving. Their son, who had been in the vehicle during the accident, survived with a broken wrist.

Steve was a fellow after my own heart. Not only did he love woodworking, but we had wasted many hours over the years talking about our other shared passions: hunting and fishing. My personal regrets include the fact that though we often talked about visiting each other for a bird hunt or a trip on the water, we never found the time to do so …and now we never will. My heart goes out to his family, who have lost a good husband and wonderful father. The woodworking community has lost a good friend as well, but the words are just not there to do the loss justice.

Sincerely,

– Rob Johnstone, Woodworker’s Journal
