Hitachi has just announced that it will now offer an exclusive Lifetime Lithium-Ion Tool Warranty to the original purchasers of its HXP Lithium Ion cordless tools. Even better, the warranty is retroactive, back to the original launch date of this tool line in August 2006. So, if you’ve purchased a qualifying HXP tool any time prior to the new warranty, your tool is covered as well — and there’s no need to re-register it.
The new Lifetime Lithium-Ion warranty covers the tool body, not the battery. However, Hitachi warrants the HXP batteries for two years. Categories of cordless Lithium-Ion tools that are currently covered under this lifetime warranty include driver drills, hammer drills, impact drivers, impact wrenches, circular saws, jigsaws, reciprocating saws and blowers. Some exceptions do apply; cordless Lithium-Ion grinders, rotary hammers and gas nailers are still covered by Hitachi’s one-year warranty.
Hitachi will continue to honor the original warranty on its HXP Lithium-Ion Battery Chargers, which covers defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.
The company will be updating tool packaging in an ongoing fashion, so some HXP tool cartons that are on store shelves now will still show the previous 10-year warranty offer on the box. Regardless of the packaging disclaimer, though, Hitachi is covering all applicable Lithium-Ion tools under the new lifetime warranty.
