In the 20-volt MAX Lithium-Ion Brushless Drill-Driver from Rockwell Tools (model RK2852K2), carbon brushes have been completely eliminated in favor of electrical commutators to create a maintenance-free motor with reduced noise, friction, heat buildup and wear for a longer motor life. Smart chip internal software controls provide electromagnetic current to convert electricity into mechanical energy. According to Rockwell, this increases battery runtime by up to 50 percent charge over standard brushed motors. The battery on the tool is a 20-volt lithium-ion, 2 amp-hour battery. The 20V Lithium-Ion Brushless Drill-Driver has a drilling capacity of 1-1/2 inches, maximum torque of 531 pounds per inch and a two-speed gearbox with no-load speeds of 0-600 and 0-2,000rpm.
