Fixing ‘Stepped’ Corners

Fixing ‘Stepped’ Corners

When I build a box, then cut off the lid on the table saw, I end up with two distinct small steps in opposite corners. How can I fix this?

Carol Reed: Sounds like you need to check your saw fence for parallelism with the blade. The conventional way is to make the blade absolutely parallel with the miter slot first, then make the fence parallel with the same miter slot plus .002 more on the back side of the blade, to help prevent kickback.

Richard Jones: Try slipping a piece of wood the same thickness as the saw kerf created into the gap made by the saw to hold the lid and base parts equidistant to one another.
