Matching Wood with Sawdust Putty

Matching Wood with Sawdust Putty

How can I make putty to match the wood by using the sawdust I’ve collected from cutting?

Mark Hensley: I used epoxy with ebony dust when I did ebony inlays. It worked really well. To release the bubbles, I used a light source for heat which raised the bubbles to the top.

Michael Dresdner: Sawdust mixed with epoxy works well, but there are limits to how much dust you can incorporate into the mixture of some epoxies before the matrix becomes too weak. Other traditional methods include mixing the dust with either shellac or hide glue.
