Table Saw Wax Woes

Table Saw Wax Woes

I recently restored an older Unisaw and installed a Biesemeyer fence. Biesemeyer suggests waxing the rails but doesn’t suggest what kind of wax to use. Perhaps more importantly the recently reground surface is starting to show rust. I’ve heard that paste wax can be used, but I don’t want to use anything that would interfere with the wood finish. What should I use?

Michael Dresdner: Paste wax is just fine, as are any of the alternative products, such as Slipit, Boeshield, Topsaver, and other compounds made specifically to lubricate and inhibit rust. None of them, including paste wax, will interfere with the wood finish, since they all go on in layers too thin to transfer to wood being moved across the metal.
