Where Can I Find a 220-volt Router Speed Control?

I hope you can assist in my search. I have 2 routers without speed controls. I can find many external speed controls for routers in the U.S. These controls are all 110V units. I would like a 220V/50Hz unit 15-20A router speed control as I am in South Africa. Up to now I have found nothing. The closest is a Germany-based company, Zelleman, that sells build-it-yourself units, 220V but 5A. I contacted them to ask if they could change the schematics to be 20A, but they did not want to. Do you know of any router speed control that is made for the European, Australian and South African market? – Ewan Sadie

Tim Inman: Working with powerful routers and high voltage is probably not the time to take short cuts. I’d find “the real thing” if it were me. If I couldn’t find it, then it might be time to put those old friends out to pasture, and purchase a new variable speed model to do your work. This is not a place to be “penny wise, and pound foolish.” Routers are fun to use, and usually considered very safe, but why take a chance with high voltage?

Chris Marshall: Ewan, I’m hoping fellow eZine readers outside the U.S. might have the solution you need, because my search for a 220-volt router speed control at 15 to 20 amps is proving fruitless. I did, however, find a thread on routerforums.com that might be of some use to you. Click here.
