Fairing a Template

Fairing a Template

What does it mean to “fair” a template?

Carol Reed: Let your fingers trace the edges of the template. If you feel a flat spot, you can smooth it into the curve with additional milling, usually with sanding. That process is called “fairing.”

Michael Dresdner: In short, “fairing” is another word for “blending;” either blending two flats with a curve, a flat to a curve, or any anomalies in a curve.
