I installed a halogen bulb in the work light of my band saw. The halogen “flickers” with the vibrations of the saw, so I tried an incandescent, and found no flicker. The “lighting expert” at my local home improvement store thinks I’m on drugs. Any ideas?
John Brock: I have a halogen light on my metal lathe that does not flicker at all. It’s a machinist’s light on an articulated arm. It has its own transformer in the base that keeps the bulb isolated from the circuit being shared with the motor. I have also used halogen bulbs, but not near machines. I suspect the bulb either does not have an isolating transformer, or it is inadequate for the line “noise” near the saw.
