Getting ‘Gooey Stuff’ Off a Saw

Getting ‘Gooey Stuff’ Off a Saw

I just purchased a band saw and a scroll saw and they both have some type of gooey stuff on top of the tables. Do I take that stuff off? How? Should I replace it with something?

Carol Reed: Yes. If it is thick, use a razor blade scraper. Then use mineral spirits. Then use paste wax. The first time, put on at least three applications separately. Renew as needed. If you forget, remove the light surface rust with sandpaper and WD-40, then wax.

Richard Jones: Remove it with mineral spirits (or lacquer thinner used carefully) and an abrasive nylon pad or perhaps wire wool. A little candle wax or furniture wax rubbed into the surface after that can help prevent rust and make the surface more slippery.
