This woodworker has a new table saw and it keeps kicking the 20 amp circuit breaker. The motor gets really hot and so does the cord. Is this a bad motor?
Simon Watts: Yes. Very bad and liable to set your shop on fire.
Michael Dresdner: Sounds it. Of course, you did not mention what the motor size (amp draw) was, nor what (if anything) else is on that line, or how far from the breaker the motor is and what size wiring was used. All these can contribute to breaker kickout, but the fact that the motor is getting really hot is certainly not a good sign.
