Jig for Sharpening Circular Saw Blades?

Jig for Sharpening Circular Saw Blades?

Years ago, my grandfather had a jig to sharpen his circular saw blades. The jig was mostly metal but parts of it were wood. He would set it up in his vice, set a pin, attach a handy grinder-type grinder, and grind and step to the next tooth. I think that it only ground the face of the tooth, but I’m not sure. I would like to build, borrow, buy a similar jig, but I can’t find plans, or anyone that sells them, or the complete unit . other than commercial units. Can you head me in the right direction?

Rob Johnstone: I don’t usually answer a question with a question … but why do you want to own this jig? Is it to sharpen saw blades? There a a slew of expert folks just waiting to do that task for you and I assure you that they will provide better results than you will achieve at home. But with that said, my best advice would be to pepper the woodworking message boards with your question and also keep an eye on places like eBay.
