Shim and Spacer Supplies

Shim and Spacer Supplies

I’m looking for a source of supply for shims and spacers for my cutting tools. Any suggestions?

Michael Dresdner: For metal shims, check out any of the large metal working catalogs, such as Grainger (www.grainger.com), Enco (www.use-enco.com), or Travers (www.travers.com). They all sell metal shim stock in a variety of forms; sheets, coiled strips, donuts, and more. A really slick trick that I learned from Carol Reed, “The Router Lady,” is to use playing cards as shims. To keep them feeling the same to dealers, and to work well in automatic shuffling machines and multi-deck shoes, all regulation playing cards, by federal law, are exactly .010″ (ten thousandths of an inch.) Go ahead; measure a few from a deck of cards. I’ll wait.
